„Basisarbeit“ beschreibt ein heterogenes Spektrum an Erwerbsarbeit (Einzelhandel, Gastgewerbe, Reinigung, personenbezogene Dienstleistungen, Logistik, produzierendes Gewerbe), die sich dadurch auszeichnet, dass sie keine Berufsfachlichkeit erfordert. Die vorliegende explorative Studie analysiert das Wandlungspotenzial von Basisarbeit unter der Maßgabe einer digitalen Arbeitsgesellschaft im Jahr 2040 und skizziert in fünf Szenario-Spotlights mögliche Auswirkungen dieser Entwicklungen.

Angesichts der folgenschweren Auswirkungen der Corona-Pandemie auf Arbeit, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft hat sich die Denkfabrik Digitale Arbeitsgesellschaft im BMAS im Sommer 2020 im Rahmen eines Foresight-Projektes mit der Frage auseinandergesetzt, welche Folgen für heimische Wirtschaftsstrukturen und die internationale Arbeitsteilung, für die digitale Transformation sowie im Hinblick auf die Einstellungen der Bürger*innen zukünftig denkbar sind.

We explore the increased centrality of platforms in two ways: by measuring the extent to which platforms are insinuating themselves into the economy and by undertaking a detailed firm-level case study of the mega-platform, Amazon, that demonstrates the ways that macro-level data is expressed by a single platform firm.

Studies of platforms invariably focus on specific organizational forms such as sharing or gigs. We consider all of the platformenabled value creation activities including old work displaced or reorganized to new work created. We apply our framework to the work generated by Etsy and Amazon publishing.

There is much we do not know and cannot know about the socioeconomic impacts of intelligent machines. The impacts will be driven by business strategies that differ by sector and country. “Good jobs” strategies are possible. It is important to identify and strengthen the factors, including policies, that encourage them. Demographics will certainly affect the outcomes. Powerfully and importantly, the narratives about the benefits and costs of the technologies will affect the speed and breadth of the deployment of intelligent tools.
